Milestones

I'm tired.

And I want to write, but the words aren't coming to me. I hate that.

Anyway.

I mentioned before that it's been a long few days. I've had very little sleep, and we're going through some changes around here. And because this is a journal of sorts, I wanted to document, so that I don't forget. Because, let's face it, I'm forgetful. It's due to that lack of sleep, don'tcha know ;)

A few days ago Kameryn stopped nursing.

And I don't know how to feel about it. This wasn't her choice, by the way. It was mine. I just felt like it was time. She has gotten into the habit {really for the last few months} of waking to nurse 5 or 6 times in the middle of the night, and I got to the point where I just didn't think it was healthy for us to continue on like that. She wasn't getting sleep, I wasn't getting sleep. Not good. So, we quit. And it's been hard. And good. All at the same time. There is a little part of me that is sad. And a little part of me that is relieved. So I'm choosing to be happy about it. And before I'm asked ~ yes, I do realize that she's not a tiny baby anymore. ;) I'm not here to debate or defend extended breastfeeding. It works well for our family, but I can see how it wouldn't work for others.

There you have it. We're on our fourth day, and going strong. She still cries {a lot} when it's time to go down for a nap or bed, but I'm there to cuddle her until she drifts off, and it's getting easier and easier each time. She still wakes up several times in the middle of the night {though not 6, yay!}, but now instead of taking 30 minutes to get her back to sleep, all she needs is a little snuggle and a pat, and she's off to dreamland.

I want to remember this important step into big-girlhood for Miss Kam. My sweet baby girl.

Next step: Potty Training ;)

What kind of milestones are your little ones reaching? They grow so fast, don't they?

It sounds like you made the right decision. I hope you both are able to get more sleep soon!

They sure do grow fast!

I sounds like a good time to stop.

IPad wouldn't let me finish...so you get two messages from me.

M just moved into her big girl bed a week ago. Huge milestone as far I'm concerned.

No more diapers OR cribs.

Makes me kind of sad.

I wasn't able to breastfeed any of my boys, so I don't really get how hard it is to stop....but I think you are being a great momma by stopping because of the sleep issue. In the long run, sleep will probably do her a lot more good than continuing to breastfeed:)

I wasn't able to nurse my babies either, but I do understand the sadness you feel about your baby growing up. I hope she settles into the new routine soon and everyone gets more sleep. I'm sure once you feel rested you will feel a lot better about things.

Mama needs her sleep! Good luck to both of you on this transition.
I was not able to breastfeed either of my girls, so I am envious of you right now. :)
I don't know if you want to know the milestones we are facing these days...um, there are a lot of talks about abstinence, protection, avoiding certain boys and groups....oh, it just gets to be so much fun. :0

They do grow way too fast. It's like when we took away the bink for Caleb or stopped rocking each child to sleep. Now Caleb is pretty much out of pull ups and I just can't believe it. Yesterday he was drinking out of a big boy cup...sigh (but kind of a happy sigh). Hang in there! Yeah to sleep!

Hope you can get some full nights of sleep soon. Life is so nice on 8 hours of sleep :)

Since all my kids are weaned and potty trained, the next milestone for Maggie is taking away her pacifier (she'll be 3 in December). John-Paul will also have a big milestone this year when he gets First Communion.

I so get what you're going through. I nursed Noah until he was almost 2 and Noelle until last month (so a few months past 2). I had a hard time with stopping both but I knew it was time for us. It amazes me at the Lord's timing - I literally cut Noelle off RIGHT before my accident. I would have been so crushed if my accident is what made me stop! I hope your sleep issues resolve shortly. I know how draining that is and it impacts everything. Praying for you in this area :)

Liz...I'm sad for you too, but know that you made the right decision for you and your family. Like you, I am able to nurse and it just slays me when my little ones quit on me! I finally weaned Mary Catherine at 15 months b/c of family pressure (boo!), but Benjamin weaned himself at around 10 months and I was sooo not ready for that! He just became so disinterested...way to occupied by what sister was doing...the digital lights on the alarm clock...toy on the floor, etc. Great job blogging about it so that You have a milestone captured.

Luke the duke is raising up on forearms and turning that head this way and that. He can now roll from tummy to back! yay!

Take care,
Val

Oh I so remember those feelings. I had to make both Skylar and Bailey stop nursing at about 18 months. Reagan weaned herself. I like your attitude about it though....choosing to be happy. Remember you have given her an incredible start! And now you can celebrate by having an adult beverage :D
Praying that sleep gets easier soon. Bailey is FINALLY sleeping better at night. Praise GOD!!! I hope it continues.

I hope she sleeps better soon... I went through a few years of not sleeping well... at all... due to reflux... if the docs had only figured it out... the Years I could have slept... (*sigh*) =)

anyway... here's hoping for sleep for you!! and her!!

my milk stopped supplying at 7 mo. with both my babies... it was SO hard to stop nursing them SO young!! =(

oh wow! I know just how that feels, all my kids were addicted to nursing. And yes, still waking up mnay times a night well after their first birthday. I finally stopped nursing that last one when he turned 2 in April!
