Babies

Last year we incubated eggs, and it was such an amazing experience.
There is something so incredible about watching new life form.

So . . . we thought we might attempt it again this year :)
Jeremy found a new rooster at the auction.
We'd had to get rid of our rooster from last year because he was MEAN. 
Turns out our new one is just as ornery, so back to the auction he will go when we are through collecting eggs.

41 in all.
That was the maximum number that would fit into the egg turner.
 

 

We kept them warm and cozy for 21 days . . .
 

 

and yesterday afternoon, we started hearing peeps.
Then eggs started wiggling about.
Peeping got louder . . .
Until finally . . .

 

 

 

 Our first little guy!
8 more joined him {her?} through the night, and we're waiting on the rest today.
And yeah . . . I'm already planning our Easter pictures ;) 

 

 

 

 

 

Babies Galore!

Y'all, we have 17  new, fuzzy little babies at our house. 
Jealous?
 I thought ya might be.


A few weeks ago Jeremy had the fantabulous idea to incubate eggs.  Ya see, last year we brought 8 lovely little chickies home from Coastal.  And one of those little chickies wound up being a rooster.  We thought it might be kind of fun to hatch our very own eggs.  What a Science project, right?

So.  A few days after we got home from San Diego, we fired up the incubator, and nestled a whole bunch of little eggs inside it.

And waited.
And turned them.
And waited.
And added water to up the humidity.
And turned them.
And waited.

And . . .

Good gracious they're cute!

Our "grown-up" chickens recently stopped laying eggs, so we figured it was time to get some new little guys {ahem, girls}. As you can probably imagine, Sierra, Makenna, and Kameryn are beyond excited!
