Countdown to Countdown to Christmas

With only two days to go, I am bustling around here trying to prepare
for our yearly Countdown to Christmas.
2018 activity, outing, and craft ideas are jotted in the Christmas planner,
and all that's left to do is cut the slips of paper, and place them in the Calendar.
I can hardly believe that this is our tenth Countdown to Christmas.
A whole decade.
Where does the time go?

The last few years we've kicked off our countdown with a  North Pole Breakfast.
Our elf, Holly, returns, and the girls LOVE it!

What are your favorite Christmas traditions?

I'll link a couple of our Countdown favorites, and leave your ideas in the comments!
I'm always looking for new activities!

Countdown to Christmas 2014

Day 8 of Countdown to Christmas

was spent reading one of my most favorite books from childhood!

The Gingerbears First Christmas.

Several weeks ago I picked up little teddy bears for each of the girls . . .

And we made them a little fleece scarf.

To keep them warm, of course!!

What does your countdown look like??

Do share!

Countdown to Christmas 2014 ~ Day 4

Well, December is moving right along, isn't it??

The girls were so excited to get our tree yesterday {oh who am I kidding, I get more excited than anyone!}.  We set right to decorating after dinner last night, and they did a great job!  Especially considering our tree is 10 1/2 feet tall.  We reached as high as we could before breaking out the ladders.

Today is errand-running.  But we may throw in a trip to Starbucks *if* we can all behave ourselves.

What are you all up to today??

Countdown to Christmas 2014, Day 2

Day 2 of Countdown to Christmas found us making Christmas crafts.

Countdown02

I found cute little packaged Christmas crafts at Michael's several weeks ago for days like today, when I really just wanted {needed} to stay at home, but needed an activity for the girlies.
Worked perfectly!

We're also counting down our days in Scripture.
Won't you follow along?

December 1st

Eeeek!!!  It's December 1st!  I can hardly believe it!!!

I am so excited for another year of Countdown to Christmas at our house.

The decorations are up, the countdown tree is hung . . . we are READY!

Our activity for December 1st traditionally is to make a Hershey's Kiss Countdown Chain,

but we're changing it up!

This year {and last year too!}, we celebrated the 1st of December with a

The girls LOVE it!

They opened up Christmas Jammies,

and got to decorate French Toast "Trees".

Counting Down!

I can't believe we are so close to Christmas!
How is it that December picks up more speed with each day??

We've been busy with outings and activities each day.

We met up with friends to watch our dance studio's recital.
We took Fall session off this year because we had so many other things going.
It was strange not watching my own girls dance, but I think they kind of enjoyed getting to see the recital from a different view :)

The girls went shopping with Daddy {well, the older two, anyway}.
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned how adorable I think that is.

The girls got mani/pedis at the salon.
I've had a gift certificate at our local salon for ages,
and I just didn't see me having the time to go use it.
Besides, how much MORE fun is it to watch your little girls be pampered??

We've been wrapping, and baking, and watching our favorite Christmas movies ♥

 Only a few days left  . . .

Countdown to Christmas 2013 ~ Days 13, 14, & 15

Well, Friday, the 13th was spent at the movie theater.
Going to the theater is kind of a big deal around here.
We don't go often because we always have a little one, and . . .
let's face it, going to the theater is EXPENSIVE.

We went to see Frozen.
Ohhhhhh, it was so great!
We all adored it.
And . . .
Taylor sat the WHOLE way through.
I couldn't believe it!
Big girl :)

Dec1301W

Saturday family came to bake cookies at our house.
Gingersnaps, Sugar cookies, Sandies, and Peanut Butter . . . just to name a few.

Dec1401W

Sunday was busy, busy, busy.
Rehearsals at church in the morning, followed by the service, and then the program
and annual donut fry that evening.

Today we are watching Christmas movies and staying in jammies all day!
Hooray for a jammie day!

Christmas is nearly here!

Countdown to Christmas 2013 ~ Days 11&12

Day 11 was a nice, quiet day spent at home.
The girls were surprised with a couple of new books.

Dec1101W

And Day 12, we continued our annual tradition of visiting Grandma at work.

Dec1201W

She surprised each of the girls with a new ornament,
and they drank cocoa, and ate cupcakes.

Dec1202W

Dec1203W

But I think their most favorite part was playing at the desk.
Grandma's 10-key was a HUGE hit, lol!
I'm pretty much done with their shopping, but I'm tempted to buy a 10-key
simply because it kept them so entertained ;)

Dec1204W

Today we are headed to the theater to see Frozen.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Taylor makes it through at least a portion of it! :)

Countdown to Christmas 2013 ~ Days 9 & 10

We're counting on down to Christmas!

Day 9 was spent shopping.
My girls could shop all day, every day.
They love it.

I needed to pick up a little surprise at the Disney store,
and then it was off to Walmart for wrapping supplies.
No photos for day 9 because 4 children + 1 disorganized Mama = mess.

Day 10 was Wrapping Day.
I specifically bought a couple extra rolls of .97 wrap at Walmart so the little girls could wrap
{and tape!} to their heart's content.

Dec1001W

Holly let her hair down yesterday.

Dec1002W

And in the afternoon, we got a call from my dad
asking if the big girls and I would like to go to a movie.

I'm going to be honest, at first I wasn't sure.
It was a greasy-hair, pony-tail and leggings kind of day,
and the thought of leaving the house didn't appeal.

But I'm so happy we went.
It was nice to get out with just the two big girls.
It was a beautiful drive to an old movie theater in Silverton.

Dec1003W

Dec1004W

And I was pleasantly surprised to find I LOVED the movie
{we saw Catching Fire. I didn't love the first movie, but the second totally made up for it!}
*And ya know, my hair was nothing a little baby powder couldn't fix ;)

Dec1005W

Once we got home, we had a little dinner, did some snuggling, and put the littles to bed.

And just enjoyed the beautiful sights of Christmas.

Dec1006W

Today is a laid back day at home.
Christmas story-reading is on our to-do list.
I'm going to enjoy these quiet moments . . .
the rest of the week is going to be BUSY!

Countdown to Christmas 2013 ~ Days 6,7, & 8

Why does this time of year FLY by??

We're just over two weeks away from Christmas!!

We're having so much fun with our countdown
{a few meltdowns, a couple bad attitudes . . . but that just seems par for the course this time of year.
Too much excitement, maybe?}

Dec601W

Friday was spent making Gingerbread men.

Dec602W

And when I say we spent that day making them, I pretty much mean that it turned into an all day event ;)

Dec604W

Turns out Kam and Tay LOVE decorating the little guys.

Dec605W

Dec607W

Dec608W

Dec610W
Dec609W

In the end, we had a bunch of cute little Gingerbread men, and the mess?  It was nothing that a broom, mop, and shower couldn't clean up :)

We also got a tiny little dusting of snow.
And the temps have been in the teens and below . . . BRRRR!

Sis02W

On Saturday we went down to the church for the Hanging of the Greens.
We couldn't set to work without Chili in our bellies ;)

Dec701W

And yesterday, after church, we decorated at Grandma and Grandpa's

We've got a busy week ahead of us!
What's on your calendar?

Countdown to Christmas 2013 ~ Days 4 & 5

Snow has been forecast for days, and yet . . . not a trace in our neck of the woods :(
So, on the 4th we decided to make our own snowflakes.

Dec404W

Later that evening we were invited to Nana and Grandpa's to decorate their tree.

Kam LOVES to decorate.
In 20 or so years, if you're looking for an interior decorator . . .

Dec403W

Dec402W

Dec401W

The girls have been begging to dress up their American Girl dolls, and pose them for photos.
I found an adorable baking set for dolls on Amazon that didn't cost eleventy million dollars.
Sierra and Kenners dressed their dolls in aprons, and had an AG baking photo shoot ;)
That was our activity for December 5th.

Dec503W

While the big girls were snappin' away, the little girls were cuddled in the living room . . .

Dec502W

. . . watching some Christmas classics.
Dec501W

Whew! Life seems rather chaotic right now.
I have a list of about three thousand things to do, and every time I check one item off, five more pop up.
Every year my goal is to make the month of December stress-free.
Looks like I need to work a little harder at that :)
