Extreme Makeover: Me Edition, Week Seven

Is it Wednesday already? My how the weeks are flying by! I guess it's time for Extreme Makeover: Me Edition, once again! The fabulous, Amber, has gotten us gals together for support and encouragement while we try to better ourselves and get healthy! Join us, post about it, and link up, why don'tcha?

So . . . I knew this week would bring set-backs. I spent three days on vacation with my family, throwing caution to the wind, and not watching what I ate. At all. I had a big serving of my mom's lasagne (with super yummy garlic bread, thankyouverymuch) the first night, delicious fajitas (courtesy of my brother and brother-in-law) the second, and, oh yeah, many slices of pizza on the third. No, in case you're wondering, this wasn't followed by lots of exercise. I'm not gonna lie to ya, I didn't even think about exercise once. And if that wasn't enough, my beautiful, sweet, thoughtful daughters know exactly what I love . . . chocolate. And they got me plenty of it for Mother's Day. Like, two gigantic bars and three bags, to be exact. And it was the good kind {as if there's a bad kind of chocolate}. And yes, I had a lot of it. Okay, there, confession over. It wasn't a great week for weight loss, but it was a great week for family and fun. I think that should win out every once in awhile, anyway.

Before I jump to the results (I'm not really looking forward to posting them, so I'll stall as long as I can), it's time for the question of the week:

Show us your inspiration picture. Of yourself skinny, of yourself fat, of a celebrity that inspires you to keep going.

I don't really have an inspiration picture. I did recently come across some pictures taken in 2003. That was a year after I had Sierra. I was in really good shape at that point in my life, probably my thinnest at about 103 pounds, but also pretty toned as I exercised to Denise Austin every.single.day. This picture was taken in August of 2003. My mom, Sierra, and I had taken a trip to Michigan to visit my roommate from Miss USA. We spent a week back there just visiting, and it was so much fun. I look at the picture now and aspire to get my body back in that kind of shape. I felt good.

August 2003

And also the fall of 2006. We went to Hawaii in October, so I had been pretty good about exercising, and I just felt good about my body.

Okay, the results:
I stayed exactly the same. No gain, no loss. To the ounce, the same. I'm actually not altogether disappointed since I did not make the best choices health-wise last week. I'm going to get my bum in gear for next week, though. I still have a few pounds to go, and LOTS to tone!

Until next week, ladies!

Beautiful picture!

I think it is important, especially while on a trip to not deprive yourself. For example, I had dessert with my husband on our date but we shared it and we picked something light. Totally loved it and still felt like I got a treat.

Great job and good luck this week!

Hi Liz!
Great job not gaining anything! I think it's so important to still have fun and enjoy life - otherwise what's the point?

That picture of you is gorgeous. Good luck this week.

That is a great picture. I think feeling good comes in first and losing weight second. You are doing great.

Dude, you look seriously hot in that picture!! After you'd had a baby?? And you were going to visit someone else for the Miss America?? YOU looked like the Miss America. And 103?? REally? I don't know that I could ever weigh that little.

I think you look awesome NOW.

And I also think it's great you didn't gain! Woo hoo! Yay for vacations!

I am glad that you had your mom's lasagne. The ability to enjoy food, fellowship, memories, and Mother's Day is beautiful and important. You are beautiful, and congrats on a maintain :)

You won't remember that maintain, but you will remember that family time.

Whoa, Hot Mama!!! You look fantastic now and unbelievable in your picture from 2003.

I guess once you're in Miss USA shape, it's hard not to want to get there again :)

I'm impressed with how awesome you are doing!!! Yay for chocolate and indulgence every once in awhile!!

I don't know how to whistle or I would! Gorgeous pix! Although you didn't lose weight, even if you had gained a little, there is much to be said for not denying ourselves the pleasure of good food and family.

And Lasagna? The Italians say that "we do not age at the dinner table...." Mangia bene!

Liz, I am impressed!! Because I got on the scales this morning after being gone for 5 days, eating the same food that you did and I had gained two pounds. Your bedroom was upstairs and maybe that is what saved you!! Or maybe chasing after 3 little girls!! Way to go girl!! I love ya

Hi Liz, Thanks for coming over to say Hi and encourage me on the EM:ME journey. I think it's good to be able to occasionally "let go" and just enjoy time with family without having to worry too much about food. That's the point I want to reach - when I eat healthy *most* of the time, and allow myself occasional indulgences.

BTW, there is such a thing as "bad" chocolate. I had really bad chocolate when I was in the Philippines - it was such a sad substitute for the real thing!

So glad you are not beating yourself up over enjoying family time, that is important. And besides, it would not be nice to hurt your kiddos feelings by not fully appreciating their Mothers Day gift. :)

Liz,

You did great!! Enjoying time with family and friends is what's most important in life. It's a bonus that you didn't gain anything. It makes the time you spent together that much sweeter!

The pic is BEAUTIFUL!! Good luck this week!

Much love from NJ,
Sue
