Projects!

It's been a looooong time since I've had an extra minute for a project.
Like, a long time.
But lately Sierra has been interested in sprucing up her room a bit, so we're brainstorming to come up with inexpensive {free?} ideas to transform her plain room into a special spot she can love.

First thing on her list was a new comforter/bedding set.
She found one online that she loved.
And it was on sale!

She has also wanted a canvas to hang above her bed.
And one of our favorite labs was having an amazing canvas sale,
so we took advantage:




It was a great start, but there was still a lot of bare wall space just staring at us.
Eventually she would like to put up a shelf that she can decorate with pictures and other trinkets.
But that will have to come later
{when we can shop around and find some steals!}

After a little thought, we decided a corkboard was a must.
A spot to pin photos, quotes, letters from pen-pals, and other special momentos.

So we started in.

The best thing about this project?
It cost nothing.
I guess at one time I had invested a few dollars into the supplies,
but all of these items I had on hand.
And when you're living on a very strict budget . . . free is like a breath of fresh air!

I found some scrap fabric {that just so happens to match Sierra's new bedding perfectly},
cork board, picture frame, ribbon, and stapler.

 

 We covered the cork board in our fabric, and stapled to the back.
{I also stapled my finger, but we won't talk about that}
 

 

Added accent ribbon 

And placed inside the frame.
 

Tada!

Now Miss Sierra has a little spot for all of her special treasures.

 

 

 

 

Projects!

So, turns out a blog break isn't all bad. The girls and I have been enjoying some beautiful, sunshiney weather {finally!!}, and since Jeremy is off hunting, we've had a little extra time for . . .

Projects!

Oh how I've missed projects. We've been so busy lately ~ moving and organizing and getting settled; finishing up our school year; preparing for a new baby; and all sorts of other odds and ends, that we just haven't had much craft time. But the last couple of days we made the time.

A sneak peak:

For her birthday, Makenna received an American Girl sleeping bag for her doll. Sierra's been wanting one ever since. So the other day we were at the fabric store, and I picked up some super snuggly {and cute} minky with thoughts of just making a sleeping bag myself. I'm not a seamstress. At all. I love making baby blankets and bibs, little burpies, and even some appliqued onesies, but I don't do zippers or anything crazy like that ;) But I attempted it anyway, and we thought it turned out pretty cute! I even stamped a little silver tag that reads: Meg, {her doll's name is Meagan}, and attached it to the zipper.

I've also been making little headbands and photo props in anticipation of our new little one's first pictures! Can you tell we're a liiiiiiitle excited about her arrival?

Kam decided she like this one, and put it on for awhile ;)

I love these colors.

And a tiny little basket that she can snuggle inside for picture day :)

Friend Makin' Monday ~ It's Project Time!

It's Friend Makin' Monday! This week Amber asks:

What kinds of projects are on your to do list this year???

If you're like me, January can be a bit . . . overwhelming. It's the start of a new year which leaves me wanting to do everything. I need to start small and move forward, but instead I run around starting a whole bunch of projects, leaving many unfinished. Anyway.

♥ We have one BIG project planned this year. We are hoping to build a house. We meet with a builder this week to see if our ideas and his ideas mesh. And alsoto see if we can afford to build a house! I am SO excited! Eeeekkk! ♥

***Other than that, I'm dreaming of finishing a million little projects.***

♥ Organizing our homeschooling cabinets and drawers.

♥ Organizing in general.

♥ Finishing the scrapbook{s} I have started, and moving on to some digital scrapbooking/photo organization.

♥ More activities and crafts with the kids.

Countdown to Christmas is almost here!

Tomorrow is the first day of December!

If you're like us, you're gearing up for lots of holiday fun this month. Tomorrow's project is our Hershey's kiss Advent Calendar. Of course, the girls don't know it yet. They will find out tomorrow morning!

I've posted a couple of ideas for our Countdown to Christmas, and I thought I'd post one more tonight to get y'all started for the week.

Snowflakes

These will be a super-easy craft for the girls to do. I took white craft foam and cut out snowflakes. The girls will decorate them with glitter, rhinestones, sequins, etc. We will then punch a hole in the top, pull string through and hang them from the girls' bedroom ceiling. We always hang white lights in their room for Christmas, so these snowflakes should look darling just twinkling away. If you don't have any craft foam, you could always use white construction paper!

Countdown to Christmas Update

Did ya notice the new button for Countdown to Christmas? Did ya? Huh? Huh? Did ya? It is pathetic how excited I was that I made it all on my own. Pathetic. Ask Connie, she'll tell ya.

I'm getting organized, planning out my December calendar, and taking stock of what I have on hand. Can you believe December is two weeks away??? Where does the time go?

Countdown to Christmas, Kids' Creations

As the girls get a little older and are more capable {and willing!} to help out with crafts and projects, each holiday becomes more fun and exciting because more of us are involved.

This year, the holidays are bound to be more exciting than ever before. We've added another little blessing to our family, and Sierra and Makenna are both old enough to truly understand the spirit of the season.

So, I started thinking. I want to do something special each day leading up to Christmas, starting December 1st. Whether it be a craft, a project, a special outing, baking cookies and other treats, or a simple coloring page. It doesn't have to be BIG, just a little something extra.

I have a few ideas already.

Each year we choose a new holiday outing. Last year it was the Pittock Mansion, the year before we went to The Nutcracker, and the year before that it was a train ride on the Polar Express. This year we're taking it down a notch. I think our plan is to pick up my mom and my mom-in-law to go see the new Disney princess movie. We'll probably dress up the girls, and maybe have brunch. So that takes care of one day ;)

I have several crafts lined up as well. Ornament making, fridge magnets, the usual. And I know we'll be doing plenty of baking. Plus this super amazing project that the gorgeous Jen from Tatertots and Jello posted about. Of course, that will need to be completed before December 1st. Anyway.

Monthly Craft Challenge ~ YAY for FALL!

The fabulous, Heidi from Blue Eyed Blessings, is hosting her Monthly Craft Challenge, which is all about Fall and Halloween. My absolute favorite time of the year!

This is my first time participating in Heidi's Craft Challenge, and I was so excited to break out the craft supplies. Poor supplies, they've been out of commission for, literally, months and months. I haven't even thought about crafting since before Kameryn was born. Sad, I know.

Let me tell you, I had big plans for this craft challenge. But, finding crafting time is hard when you've got a very active {very needy and clingy} 8 month old, are trying to homeschool a 4 year old and a 7 year old, are participating in a Beth Moore study and have homework each night, are trying to keep some sort of semblance to your house, and are interested in finding more time for your husband than just the occasional "oh hey, that's right, you live here too". It's hard work, I tell ya ;) So, my apologies up front. I didn't get to fulfill my craft fantasies, but I did manage a craft or two. And I think that is a feat in itself.

Kam was in need of a cute Fall topper. I happened to have many blank onesies and felt from my Etsy days, which resulted in a little of this:

I wanted to break out the Mod Podge, but alas, I was too scared to attempt it. So . . . here is an old kitchen towel that got a "Fall lift" :) Guess I'm more comfortable with the sewing projects?
